Tainan is the ancient city of Taiwan-What are the Tainan City 7 Things To Do?

It has preserved many important cultural relics and places of historic interest.  It boasts a population of over 1.8 million people.  There are 166 temples and monasteries and  more than 40 Christian and Catholic churches in the city. “There is a God every five steps and a temple at three”, as the metaphor goes.

Over 70 places are classified as first, second and third-grade places of historic interest, such as to the God of War, Chiqian Mansion, Anping Fort, Confucian Temple, Temple and Da Tian Hou Palace, etc. Tainan  was the capital during imperial times. It is famous for its temples, historic buildings and snack food. The city is currently the fifth largest city on the island after New Taipei, Kaohsiung, Taichung and Taipei .


1) Anping Fort

Anping Fort  remains to be one of the most visited tourist landmarks in Tainan. Chikan Tower was constructed  by the Dutch in 1653. The Duitch first called it Orlande, changed it to Fort Zeelandia,   It became Anping Fort when it was the home of Zheng Chenggong (Koxinga). After that, the Japanese called it the Old Dutch Fort just as they were demolishing what was leftover from after decades of neglect.

2) Tainan Confucian Temple

Built in 1665, the Confucian Temple is one of the most visited sites in Tainan. Located in the city, but on a shady piece of land, the temple is a testement to the style of old Chinese architecture.

3) Anping Treehouse

The Anping Treehouse is not your typical treehouse. Located in the Anping Fort area, the treehouse is actually one banyan tree that has enveloped an oldwarehouse over the past 60 years. It is quite an amazing site as the tree has spread above, below, and throughout the house. The grounds are well kept and there are many great camera angles to capture some interesting images.

4) Garden Night Market

The Tainan Garden Night Market has become the most popular in the city. Open three nights a week, the market has many great choices of fresh cooked food.

5) President Lions Baseball Game

Whether you are a baseball fan or not, if you’re in Tainan one evening, try to get to a Uni Lions baseball game. The stadium is downtown and the tickets are reasonably priced. 6) Salt Mountain at Qigu (Cigu)

         Cigu Saltern was the youngest saltern which was managed by Japanese companies and the Nationalist government, it became the largest saltern, and was once an important supplier of industrial salt. Since than, the salt industry diminished sharply. Lots of money and human resources have been dedicated to build a Taiwan Salt Museum and traditional materials in salt industry to design this park. 

    This park there boasts two Salt Mountains Looking like a giant rock standing in a desert,: the highest peak of Salt Mountain, and the north peak of Salt Mountain, which used to be the piling space of Cigu Saltern was once the last place to dry the salt of Cigu Saltern, It consists of around 60 thousand tons of salt. The peak have been naturally crystallized over time with the dust in the air to form a rigid surface.  It has become the landmark of Cigu.

     In addition, the park comes complete park, like traditional earth, “tile tray formation” salterns, fan-shaped salterns, salt houses, salt statues, and equipment used “salt element”. For more fun, take the “Du Du Trains”  around the park. Professional narrators will explain everything you want to know to make sure you grasp the beauty of salterns. Exclusively designed “Salt Can DIY”, together with water boats, water-collecting wheel machines, Beach Cars and Go-Karts, will top this attraction off.

   The history of salt industry in Taiwan is also the history of development in Taiwan. This park is features  history, industry, culture, art and ecology. Once you are here on Salt Mountain, with the thousand-hectare saltern within your grasp , you will be reminded of the history of our forefathers’ hard work, and find yourself enjoying in this wonderful Taiwan attraction!

 Driving on your own : Exit Zhongshan Expressway at Matou Interchange ,then change to No.171 County Highway toward Beimen, connect to No.17 Provincial Highway , and turn left to see the signal, and drive about 5-10 minutes. Exit No. 3 National Highway at Gua
    Shungchun Coastal Recreation Area
    Swich and change to No.171 County Highway toward Beimen, connect to No.17 Provincial Highway , and turn left to see the signal, and drive about 5-10 minutes.
 By Bus: Take Singnan Bus at Tainan to address: No. 35-2, Shungchun Village, Beimen District, Tainan City
    Nankunshen Bus Station, and take taxi
