Anping Treehouse in Tainan

Anping Treehouse in Tainan

The Anping Treehouse in Tainan is a cool fusion of nature and man-made structures literally intertwined with one another.  The Anping Treehouse in Tainan is a large banyan tree that over the years has literally swallowed an old warehouse that once belonged to Tait & Co Merchant House.

For 50NT, visitors can walk the pretty grounds and admire and marvel how ONE tree could grow so wide and tall with such power and strength.

Anping Treehouse in Tainan History

After World War II, in the 1940’s, the warehouse was used for a short time by the Taiwan Salt Corporation but was soon abandoned afterwards. Once no longer in use, the banyan tree went to work and spread its branches and roots forming a spectacular scene for the next 70 years.

On the grounds, visitors can tour the old Tait & Company House which was built in 1867. It has been kept in good order and enjoyable to walk through. Anping was a big trading hub for the Dutch during the Ming Dynasty and after during the Chinese ruled QIng Dynasty.

As you walk to the back part of the grounds, you can walk through the old warehouse and admire the banyan growth both above and below the building. Some roots are so long, they look like a giant python slithering across the floor.

There is also a “skywalk” that was built above the treehouse. This gives visitors a bird’s eye view of the tree. There are so many great photo opportunities here.

Roots of the banyan tree have actually grown INTO the walls.

When you walk across the skybridge at the back end of the grounds, you come to an ecological pond. There are places to sit and look out at the waterways behind the treehouse grounds.
