Guguan 7 Heroes Mount Malun #2 馬崙山

The 7 Heroes of Guguan are 7 mountains in the Guguan area outside of Taichung City. The Guguan 7 Heroes Mount Malun is the 2nd highest of the seven peaks and is ranked as #2. The hiking trails of these mountains are through beautiful old growth forest. Although all can be hiked in a half day, the mountains can be steep and challenging at some parts.

Mt. Ma Lun

Height: 2,305  Meters
Distance:7 km (1 way)
Time Roundtrip: 6-8 hours
Altitude Gain: 1,255 Meters

Getting to Guguan 7 Heroes Mount Malun

Look Out For the Mt. Malun Sign

Here is a link for the trail head. There are many small campsites in this area.

Trail and Distance Signs

Follow the sign to Mt. Malun here. The other direction leads hikers to a different trail. We didn’t bother to do that.

Well groomed trail

The one thing that makes Mt. Malun unique is the nice pine needle forests. Many parts of the trail are covered in soft orange pine needles which creates a nice fragrance. We didn’t encounter this on the other 7 Hikes of Guguan.

Half way point pavilion

The halfway point pavilion is a good stop to snack and hydrate.

Some stairs

Keep left

More nice pine needles to walk on.

Beautiful Forest

Mt. Ma Lun Peak

As with Mt. Baxian, the view from this peak is pretty much nonexistent. However, the beauty of this hike is the effort and the beautiful walk on the way up. Mt. Malun is my favorite of the 7 Heroes and one I would gladly do again.

Hikers will hang out, take photos and cook up some lunch and tea. It is a nice walk down afterwards. Perhaps hot springs await in Guguan?
