The 7 Heroes of Guguan hikes near Taichung City 谷關七雄

The 7 Heroes of Guguan are a collection of mountains 1 hour east of Taichung City. All the trail heads are located off or near the old Cross Island Highway Route 8 near the hot springs town of Guguan. It is a beautiful area, and all the hikes can be done in a day. Click on the links below to learn about each “Hero”.

7 Heroes of Guguan are listed below. Read up about how to find the trail head and what to expect.

#1 Mt. Ba Xian (long trek through funky forest)

#2 Mt. Ma Lun (long trek with beautiful red pine carpeted trails. My favorite.)

#3 Mt. Wu Wo Wei (Short hike from the top entrance. Long and steep from bottom.)

#4 Mt. Bo Jin Jia (It starts near Guguan town center. A vigorous and steep hike with a tiny peak area. Great fun.)

#5 Mt. Dong Mao (A solid popular 15km hike. Great peak area with fantastic views.)

#6 Mt. Bai Mao (Steep and short.)

#7 Mt. Tang Ma Dan (Not super long but a good jaunt up through the forest. A waterfall loop can be added to extend the hike.)

Guguan Hot Springs and Camping

I recommend heading out to Guguan for a weekend or multi-day trip if you are not from Taichung City. Guguan has plenty of accommodations if you want to stay the night and soak in some hot springs after a day of hiking.

There is also plenty of camping spots in the small aboriginal villages along the river as you drive along Route 8. Cross any of the bridges and you will eventually stumble among one of them.

Hot Springs only

You don’t need to stay at a hot spring hotel to enjoy the hot springs in the area. After a day of hiking, you can head into Guguan, have a nice meal, and walk around looking for a hot spring hotel where you can pay a few hundred NT to use their pools. Remember to bring your swimming suit and a bathing cap for Taiwan hot springs. There are a few in THIS AREA.
