Ningxia Night Market Food Guide – What to Eat When You Are There 寧夏夜市

The Taipei Ning Xia Night Market is a tradtional and popular night market for locals and vistors alike. Local Taipei residents continue to come back to Ning Xia for a few popular foods. Here are some of them to try.

#1 Oyster Omelette 蚵仔煎 (Taiwanese: “e-ah’jian”)

The famous Taiwan oyster omelette is popular in many places in Taiwan. For some reason, it draws locals to a few famous shops at Ning Xia. You can’t miss the long lines at the 3 shops that sell them. One is actually just outside the gate of the market on Ming Sheng Road. The omelette is made with eggs, veggies, and oysters. It’s a must try at least once when in Taiwan.

Look for the shop below to try an oyster omelette. This store front is on the right side as you enter the market from Ming Sheng Road.

#2 Crispy Taro Ball  香脆芋丸

Ningxia Night Market Food has a famous crispy taro ball stand. This stand called “Liu Yu Zai” makes and sells crispy taro balls. It is a combination of taro and egg stuffed in a dough and then deep fried. This kind of snack is very Taiwanese because it’s more of a salty snack than a sweet one.

There have been many write-ups about this stand and it has become popular. The line was huge when we got there. At this time, the stand was located in front of the elementary school.

You can get one of two kinds of the Taro ball. One has an egg inside, (20 NT) and the other is eggless (15 NT).

Another famous restaurant on Ning Xia is the Huang Ji Sesame Oil Chicken restaurant. It’s located on the right side about half way down the market when you enter from Ming Sheng Road.

Sesame Oil Chicken is not only chicken. You can get kidneys, liver, hearts, and noodles. All are cooked with sesame oil and carry that flavor. These kinds of restaurants are common in Taiwan. It’s a very distinct Taiwanese taste. It’s definetely not for vegetarians.
