Keelung Night Market 基隆夜市-廟口夜市

The Keelung Night Market is awesome and a quick trip from Taipei City.

Easy to Get To Keelung Night Market

The Keelung Night Market is just a 7 minute walk from the Keelung train station and it is not to be missed. It is arguably one of the most famous and even best night markets in the country.

Keelung pronounced “Jee-long” is the northern most city in Taiwan. It is about 30 minutes by highway from Taipei city.

Keelung is famous for its seafood and shipping port. Once arriving at the train station or downtown, the smell of the ocean engulfs you. Large ships are docked in the large harbor and the boardwalk along the water is teeming with sightseers and residents.

The Night Market is centered around a local temple in the center of the city. Therefore, sometimes the night market is called “Miao Kou Night Market” or “Temple Entrance Night Market”.

The Keelung Night Market is famous for its seafood. The milk crab and stirred fried king crab legs are popular. It’s hard to find these dishes at other markets.

Also, Keelung is famous for crab sticky rice and barbecue squid and cuttlefish.  Look for the famous “healthy sandwich” which is a long bread bun filled with vegetables and sauces. However it is then subsequently deep fried in oil. How “healthy” you think that is is up to you.

For dessert, try the “pao pao bing”. It’s like ice cream but is more like an icy cream. It comes in many flavors and is quite popular.

To get to the Keelung Night Market, take a train or bus from Taipei.  The market is not a super large one either. It’s an “L” shape and is easy to get familiar with. However, on the weekends, there are large crowds from Taipei and the surrounding areas.
