Jiaoxi Hot Springs Chicken Restaurants

On the road into Jiaoxi, heading south on Route 9, there are several roadside restaurants serving up roasted chicken. Roasted chicken has become a popular meal for visitors visiting the Jiaoxi area. They are open from late morning to late evening and are a fresh delcious meal.

One very famous restaurant, and one of the first, is Wen Yao Ji 甕窯雞. The chickens are cooked in an earthenware pot heated but firewood. Diners can savor a whole chicken or half chicken depending on the number of diners. When cooked, the meat is moist and succulent with a crispy skin coating. It is definetely worth a try!

After the chicken is served, diners are given a set of thermal and plastic gloves. One diner uses their gloved hands to tear apart the steaming hot chicken into pieces so others can use chopsticks to serve themselves.

Prices for a whole chicken are 650 NT and 320 NT for a half chicken. There are many of these clay pot chicken restaurtants along Route 9 near Jiaoxi. Locals will tell you that most of them are about the same in price and quality. It is definetely worth a stop for a meal. ENJOY!!
