Cycling in Kending

Kending is surrounded by coastline and mountains. There are many routes for cycling in Kending.

A popular and challenging ride for many Kaohsiung residents in the 100km ride to Kending from Kaohsiung City. The ride follows the coast and start off passing through busy, industrial and farming areas. However, at the halfway point, the southern mountains appear and the ocean takes on a blue hue with briliant green mountains on the opposite side.

Blue Skies Adventures sets up Cycling in Kending trips and all around Taiwan including custom trips to the high mountains and the KOM race route.

About 20km before Kending town, there are several turn offs where cyclists can enjoy less traffic and more nature.

At the town of Checheng, there is a right turn towards the aquarium, that enters Kending National Park. This road follows the coastline around to Baishawan Beach for about 15 km.  This road offers beautiful open ocean views, a flat surface, and a quiet scene.

Routes 199 and 200 (see above) are also alternative biking routes that head into east into the mountains. These roads head into a few small towns northeast of Kending. The mountain views and rice fields make these roads some of the best in Taiwan.

Pictured above and below, views from Route 200. There are always stops for fresh fruit or onions (you’ll ride through many onion fields) in the Kending area.

EnglishInTaiwan.com

EIT began more than 12 years ago as a resource for expats in Taiwan, Teaching English, and just Living in Taiwan in general.

We've continued to develop home-grown information about Teaching ESL/EFL, local business resources, cultural and travel info and tips, places to eat, drink, and shop.

Hopefully you'll get more out of your stay.
