Keelung is a major port city that borders the northern part of Taipei county. Seeing how it is a small port city, Keelung offers many daytime sights and activities. The first thing to see is the Port of Keelung which will have many ships coming in and out of the harbor. There are many places along the walkways there for a leisurely stroll.

One of the best activities to do in Keelung is to go out to Peace Island. This is accessible by a causeway. It has an odd name as many parts of the island are occupied by the military and are not accessible to the public.

Another place to visit is Da Guan Shan Forestry Reserve which is populated by trees that are thousands of years old. Many migratory birds flock there.

Keelung has many parks. The most famous of which is Yehliu Park. It has a spectacular landscape of rocks and greenery that make this an ideal place for walking, flying a kite, or just resting in the sun.

Temple Street Night Market is a popular place for locals, people from Taipei, and sailors on the boats to walk, sight see, and eat. It is packed full of food stalls and popular items to try are tempura and peanut butter ice sorbet.

Getting to Keelung is easy. Just get on a train heading north and get off at the station. Once there, everything is within walking distance or a short taxi ride.
