Sanyi is famous for its Hakka food. Miaoli is home to many Hakka people who have their own style of cooking. One of the popular things to eat in Sanyi is the noodles.

Past the main strip of galleries drivers will come to a pair of busy noodle/Hakka restaurants. One of them is the "Jin Bang Noodle Shop". These places are busy and offer up a selection of noodles and Hakka style noodles called "bantiao" (pictured)

Here is the sign for the "Jin Bang Noodle Shop". Next store is another busy noodle shop selling just about the same dishes.

When you head to the old street near the Sheng Xing Train Station, you will encounter a long line along the side of the road. This is for a famous stand called "Bicycle Stinky Tofu" 老鐵馬臭豆腐. You'll see an old bicycle parked next to the stand.

Bicycle Stinky Tofu is famous among Taiwanese. They also add in a pork intestines if you prefer. The line was too long so we didn't wait.

We found a few places making fresh black sesame paste in Sanyi.

There were several stands selling some unique and tasty foods. This one is dried tofu with a few herbs thrown in. Very good.

Hakka people are famous for making "Lei Cha". "Lei Cha" is a mixture of nuts and spices that are ground up and mixed with water.

This restaurant was very popular if you wanted some "Lei Cha".

As usual in Taiwan, there are many types of peanut and fruit snacks available in Sanyi.
