Best Bread Bakeries in Kaohsiung City

inFood & Eating in Taiwan, Kaohsiung 高雄

Every city in Taiwan boasts its fair share of bread bakeries. They pop up everywhere, and many Taiwanese are in the habit of buying some type of bread for an after school/work snack before dinner. Most of these bread bakeries have sweet types of buns and rolls, and are made with bleached white flour.

However, there are several choices of bakeries that specialize in hearty, natural breads made from fresh ingredients.

Below are the top 3 bread bakeries in Kaohsiung City…

1) Pasadena 帕莎蒂娜

Pasadena has been around the longest of these choices. Their restaurant group has several locations around Kaohsiung City. They have bread bakeries at the Heti Park location, and the Kaohsiung Fine Arts Museum area. Breads come out fresh from the oven at around 2-3 pm daily. There are a variety of choices including large loaves prices at over 400NT.

Currently, Pasadena has a small kiosk at the HSR train station. Below are the bakery locations around Kaohsiung…

2) Wu Pao Chun 吳寶春

Wu Pao Chun is probably the most famous bread bakery in Taiwan. The owner and baker of the same name became famous when his “Taiwan Longan Red Wine Bread” won a prestigious international award. Since then, Wu Pao Chun has opened 2 bakeries in Taiwan. The first was opened in Kaohsiung and then was followed by a smaller shop in Taipei City.

The long lines are customers who want the bread fresh from the oven during afternoon times. On weeekends, the famous breads are sold out quickly.

3) Shakespeare 莎士比亞烘焙坊

Shakespeare was opened by an apprentice of Wu Pao Chun.  The breads and pastry are excellent and they have created their own styles and flavors that set them apart from Wu Pao Chun. Shakespeare has 3 locations around Kaohsiung City. All are open at 11:00am but the loaves come out of the oven around 2-3pm.
