Whiteboard Phonics Matching Race

Whiteboard Phonics Matching Race

Age Group: Elementary
Subject: Phonics
Goal of Lesson: Students practice matching phonics endings with phonics vocabulary.
Time Needed: 15-20 minutes
Materials Needed: whiteboard or blackboard

This whiteboard/phonics game is great for phonics review.

On the whiteboard, in a line in the middle of the board, write 10 phonics endings you are working on.

The teacher then calls a student to the whiteboard. When the teacher says "GO", the student must write as many words as he can under the phonics ending.

For example: Under "at", the student can write  "bat", "cat", "mat", "fat"  etc....

When time is up or the student can't write anymore, the teacher can count how many words he has and then all another student.

a) The teacher sets a time limit for each studetn. 1-2 minutes.

b) The teacher changes the endings on the board so students can review everything they have learned.

c) 2 students come to the board at the same time and write the words.
