|Goal of Lesson:||Students gain an introduction to a new reading passage or story|
|Time Needed:||20 - 30 Minutes|
|Materials Needed:||Whiteboard and Story|
First, prep the class by writing the reading passage on the board. If the passage is too long, this may not be an appropriate lesson plan.
Next, have your students focus on the board. Don’t have them open their books yet. All eyes should be on the teacher. The teacher then reads the passage slowly while pointing to each word on the board.
After, do a read and repeat of each word in the passage with the students. Then, break down each word and the meanings. Use pictures to demonstrate each word and draw on the board next to the word.
Once each word has been broken down, read them again with the class.
Next demonstrate meaning of the passage with pictures or body movements.
Ask a few students to read some of passage out loud.
Last, have the students open their books.
As a class, read the passage together slowly. Then, call on students to individually read some or all the passage.
Next class, teacher can do a quick review and students can begin reading immediately.
