Phonics Card Matching exercise

        
Age Group: Elementary
Subject: Phonics
Goal of Lesson: Students practice matching phonics sounds with words.
Time Needed: 15 minutes
Materials Needed: phonics flashcards with ending and words

This is a basic phonics exercise to help young learners make the connection between a phonics ending and the words that are related to that ending.

 

1) Get your group together around a table or desk.

 

2) Put the endings of your phonics cards in a line on top of the table or desk.

3) Then have a student take the phonics cards that have pictures or words on them.

 

4) The student must look at each picture or word and put it under the phonics ending.

5) When all the cards have been used up, the teacher can correct any mistakes and then the next student can have a turn.

 

6) OPTION: Students can work together is small groups to help each other place all the cards in the correct row.
